Shershaah To The Vvaan – Here’s How Sidharth Malhotra Is Reinventing Himself With A Folklore Fantasy

For Sidharth Malhotra, The Vvaan is yet another pivot in his career. The actor has already explored the romantic comedy, thriller, family drama, action film, war drama and spy story. He has played the charming hero in Hasee Toh Phasee, a darker, revenge-driven character in Ek Villain, the emotionally wounded Arjun in Kapoor & Sons, Captain Vikram Batra in Shershaah and action-heavy leading man in Mission Majnu and Yodha.

But Vvaan doesn’t feel like an extension of any of those templates. The teaser places him in a folklore-fantasy world of ancient beliefs, supernatural forces and a forbidden forest, a genre space that is still relatively unexplored for a mainstream Hindi leading man. That unfamiliarity could actually be his biggest advantage.

There is no obvious Sidharth performance from the past for audiences to compare this character against. He isn’t returning as the soldier, the spy or the action hero they already know. Instead, the teaser asks viewers to accept him within a world where the rules are entirely different and that gives the actor an opportunity to wipe the slate clean.

His career has already shown that his strongest turns often come when he moves away from the image audiences have formed around him. Ek Villain took him away from the polished debutant persona, while Kapoor & Sons allowed him to play vulnerability and internal conflict. Shershaah subsequently became a major career marker, with his portrayal of Captain Vikram Batra earning him his first Filmfare Best Actor nomination.

Vvaan offers another such reset only this time, the reset isn’t just the character, but the entire cinematic universe around him. The teaser has already crossed into a world of folklore and supernatural mystery that audiences haven’t previously associated with Sidharth. And that could be what gives the actor a fresh screen identity at a time when familiarity can easily become a limitation.

For an actor who has spent his career moving between genres, Vvaan may be his boldest reset yet, not reinventing the hero, but changing the world in which audiences see him.

Backed by some of the country’s most distinctive storytellers, The Vvaan brings together TVF’s Arunabh Kumar, director Deepak Mishra and Ektaa Kapoor for a commercial film that attempts to take Indian folklore into a new cinematic space. While its world is rooted in folklore and fantasy, the film brings together adventure, mystery and humour to shape itself as a complete family entertainer. The ambition extends beyond the film, with The Legend of Vvaan comic book already introducing audiences to the larger folklore surrounding its universe.

Presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, a division of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, in association with TVF and 11.11 Production, The Vvaan stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia. Written by Arunabh Kumar and directed by Deepak Mishra, with Manu Anand as DOP and Visual Director, the film is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Arunabh Kumar and Niraj Kothari.

The Vvaan arrives in cinemas on September 25, 2026, promising a big-screen fantasy folklore experience where the visuals, music, mystery and scale come together to create a world audiences will want to step into.
