Sooraj Barjatya Praises Ranveer Singh, Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar

Praises have been pouring in for Dhurandhar: The Revenge relentlessly; the latest member is filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya. Since its release, Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2 has been receiving widespread critical acclaim. The film has broken several box office records and is enjoying a continued dream run at the theatres. Amid its success, Sooraj Barjatya also praised Aditya and called the film a ‘perfect picture after Sholay’.

In a conversation with Screen, Sooraj Barjatya described Dhurandhar as a superb blockbuster. He mentioned that, although it wasn’t a family-oriented film, he enjoyed watching it. Sooraj explained, “As a filmmaker, whatever’s good is good. I think Dhurandhar is a perfect picture after Sholay. Every character is so well done. Hats off to Aditya.”

He further emphasised the importance of diverse subject matter. The filmmaker said, “All subjects should get made, but this type of content is very important, so that we can tell the younger generation to trust, hope, and support each other. We’re all getting divided. Why should there be any loneliness?”

Dhurandhar is a two-part film directed by Aditya Dhar. It features Ranveer Singh in the lead role alongside R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, among others. The first part centred on Hamza, played by Ranveer Singh. He was an Indian spy infiltrating gangs in Pakistan’s Lyari and dismantling a terror network targeting India. The film was a massive hit. It grossed over Rs 1300 crore worldwide.

The second part, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, released on March 19, offers a glimpse into how Ranveer’s character evolved into a top spy. He climbs the ranks of Pakistan’s political landscape to become the kingpin of Lyari and complete his mission. The second instalment received critical acclaim and collected over Rs 1700 crore worldwide in just four weeks. It became the first-ever Bollywood film to cross the Rs 1000 crore mark domestically. This set a new benchmark for Indian cinema.
