A Song Shot Amid Iceland’s Breathtaking Landscapes – Farah Confirms

Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan had once shared a fascinating behind-the-scenes tidbit about the iconic romantic song Gerua from Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale. This beautiful track was filmed against the stunning backdrop of Iceland but it came with a jaw-dropping price tag.

In her vlog, Farah reminisced about how the production team shelled out nearly ₹7 crore just to shoot this one song, dubbing Iceland “the most expensive place” she’s ever worked in. “Just two actors, one song, and the budget hit seven crore.

One of the biggest highlights of Gerua was its stunning cinematography. The song was filmed across Iceland, a country known for its dramatic natural beauty. From massive glaciers and cascading waterfalls to rugged mountains and vast landscapes, the locations added a dreamlike quality to the romantic number.

The makers used Iceland’s scenic beauty to create a visually rich experience that complemented the song’s emotional appeal. The picturesque backdrops, combined with the striking visuals of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, made every frame look like a postcard.

The song also featured the famous abandoned aircraft wreckage on a black sand beach, which became one of its most recognisable visuals. The unusual location added to the song’s cinematic appeal and helped it stand out from other romantic tracks in Bollywood.

Composed by Pritam, with Arijit Singh and Antara Mitra lending their voices, the song combined a soulful melody with grand visuals. Amitabh Bhattacharya penned the lyrics, adding to its romantic appeal.

Why Gerua Remains Memorable

The ₹7 crore budget reflected the scale of the production and the effort involved in filming across international locations. While its breathtaking landscapes made headlines, the song’s lasting appeal also came from the nostalgia surrounding Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s on-screen pairing.
