On Priyanka Chopra’s birthday, the makers revealed a new look from the upcoming film ‘Varanasi’. The images from the movie, shared by Entertainment Weekly, showcase Chopra in a fierce and feisty avatar as her character Mandakini in the SS Rajamouli-directed epic. The new look features her in an all-black ensemble, sporting wild curls and a sheer outfit, seemingly from a song sequence in the film. It remains to be seen if this look is from the much-discussed dance number that Priyanka specifically requested Rajamouli for. She previously mentioned that she asked the director for a dance sequence and shot a high-energy, large-scale scene alongside co-star Mahesh Babu.

About The Role Of Priyanka Chopra In Varanasi

‘Varanasi’ marks Chopra’s first Indian theatrical release since 2019’s ‘The Sky Is Pink’. She stars opposite Mahesh Babu in the lead role as Rudhra. Mahesh Babu is also expected to portray a dual role as Lord Rama in a rumoured 20-minute sequence depicting the epic Ramayana battle. Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the primary antagonist, Kumbha, described as “dangerously unlimited in his mentality.” As the story unfolds, Chopra’s Mandakini is said to find herself caught between the two central male characters.

‘Varanasi’ marks Rajamouli’s first original feature since the global success of ‘RRR’. The filmmaker’s latest project is described as an epic action-adventure. The film spans thousands of years from ancient civilisations to the present day across multiple continents. The characters traverse Antarctica, Africa, and the holy city of Varanasi itself. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
