Sunjay Kapur Will Dispute: Late Businessman’s Mother Rani Kapur Claims Wife Priya Sachdev Was Removed From Company Board Before His Death

The legal battle over the estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur has intensified, with his mother, Rani Kapur, accusing his wife, Priya Sachdev, of taking control of assets and company interests after his death. Rani Kapur alleged during a recent Delhi High Court hearing that Sunjay had already removed Priya from the board of Sona Comstar’s holding company, AIPL, in March 2023, citing the need to “reverse” certain decisions.

She contended that Priya’s move to become MD less than a week after Sunjay’s death in June and her subsequent reinstatement as a director raised questions about her intentions. Rani also questioned the authenticity of a will presented by Priya, claiming it is likely fake because it contradicts Sunjay’s lifelong acknowledgement of his gratitude toward his mother. Her counsel argued that if Sunjay had truly intended to exclude her from his estate, he would have made his wishes clear explicitly. Rani’s counsel argued, “If he truly intended to leave me out, he would have said so expressly.”

Meanwhile, the case also involves a suit filed by Sunjay’s children from his previous marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapoor. They allege that Priya forged their father’s will and are seeking an interim injunction to prevent her from dealing with or diminishing Sunjay’s assets until the court determines the will’s validity.

Sunjay Kapur was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016. He later married Priya Sachdev in 2017. The businessman tragically collapsed during a polo match in England on June 12 due to a cardiac arrest. He leaves behind two children from his marriage with Karisma and a son with Priya, and his stepdaughter.
