The ongoing legal dispute within the Kapur family has taken a new turn as Mandhira Kapur has filed her response to Priya Sachdev’s defamation complaint in Delhi’s Patiala House Court. The case, centred around the estate of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur. It involves his sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith and his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur. They are now engaged in a legal battle over family matters and public statements related to their legacy.
Mandhira Kapur Smith Responds To Priya Sachdev Kapur’s Defamation Complaint
In a recent hearing, Mandhira submitted her reply to the criminal defamation case filed by Priya. She has also requested the court to direct the complainant to produce specific documents she considers relevant to the case. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Siddhant Sihag heard arguments on this application. The next hearing is scheduled for March 30, 2026. The court also allowed time for Pooja Chaudhary, the proposed accused, to respond with a reply.
Dispute Over Document Production
During proceedings, Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, representing Priya Sachdev Kapur, opposed Mandhira’s request for document production. He asserted that it was not maintainable at this stage of the case. He informed the court that he would not be filing a formal written reply. Singh reserved the right to raise legal arguments during the course of the hearing.
In contrast, Advocate Amit Prasad, representing Mandhira, submitted both her reply to the defamation complaint and the application for the production of documents. He argued that the defamatory statements attributed to Mandhira should not be examined in isolation and cited a Supreme Court judgment to support his request. However, Maninder Singh countered, stating that the Supreme Court ruling cited by Mandhira’s lawyer did not apply to the current circumstances.
About The Case
The dispute stems from a complaint filed in January this year. Priya Sachdev Kapur accused Mandhira of making false claims, insinuations, and personal attacks across podcasts, media interviews, and social media platforms. Priya alleged that Mandhira’s statements contained false information and were presented as facts despite related issues being under judicial review.
The court has now scheduled the next hearing for March 30. The legal battle within the Kapur family continues to unfold. Stay updated.
