Heera-Mandi: Sanjay Leela Bhansali registers the title for his next with Priyanka Chopra

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is already planning his next directorial venture. The maverick filmmaker who’s known for his costume dramas is synonymous with films of a certain grandeur and stature. Off late, his last two projects earned big bucks at the box office too.

There were already talks about SLB’s next and we can now confirm what it’s about. Our source says, “He is planning a biopic on Gangubai Kothewali, adapted from Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens Of Mumbai’. Priyanka Chopra is the one playing the lead role in it and the makers plan to announce the film around end-2018.”

Incidentally, Vishal Bhardwaj has announced a film on Zaidi’s other story on Sapna Didi’s life which was supposed to star Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan but the project got delayed because of the latter’s ill health.

Apparently, SLB has even found a title for the film. “It’s being called ‘Heera Mandi’. Bhansali had registered the title around 11 years back when he was planning his ambitious project on the red-light district in Lahore, of the same name. That didn’t take off then. But now, with Gangubai’s story lending itself to a similar plotline, he’s using this title for PeeCee’s film now,” added the source.

This also means that the ‘Padmaavat’ director’s film with Salman Khan will go on floors only after this film. Sallu too doesn’t have any dates till mid-2020 since he’s already committed to a few films.
