Dream Girl 2 Day 1 box office: Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday starrer opens in double digits

Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday starrer Dream Girl 2 takes an opening of Rs 10.69 crores. The film surpasses the opening day collection of Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani starrer SatyaPrem Ki Katha.

Ayushmann Khurrana returned with a sequel of his 2019 hit Dream Girl on August 25. This time, he had a new leading lady in Ananya Panday. With the phase that the Indian box office has seen in the recent times, Dream Girl 2 was expected to benefit from that. And as it turns out, the film actually has benefitted as it takes an opening in double digits.

Dream Girl 2 Day 1 box office collection

The Ayushmann and Ananya starrer was expected to have an opening in the range of Rs 7-8 crores. But the actual Day 1 business turned out to be even better. The film has collected Rs 10.69 crores on Day 1, taking a double digit opening. It has surpassed the opening day collection of Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan starrer Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, as well as Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani’s SatyaPrem Ki Katha.

If Dream Girl 2 maintains the pace and shows growth on the next 2 days, the first weekend collection can be in the vicinity of Rs 40 crores. The word of mouth has been quite mixed for the film until now, but some have praised its massy appeal. Also, Ayushmann’s act has been unanimously praised by the critics and audiences alike. The film however is facing stiff competition at the box office from Gadar 2 and OMG 2. While they have slowed down considering it’s their third week, they are still both performing well.

Dream Girl 2 review

At Bollywood Bubble, we gave 3 stars out of 5 to Dream Girl 2. A part of the review reads, “The film marks Ayushmann’s return as Pooja who is joined by Ananya Panday in this one. The film is based on how far a lover will go to convince her ladylove’s father for marriage… If you’re looking for a fun watch this weekend then Dream Girl 2 is an apt choice for you. However, it’s not as good as the first part.”
