Farhan Akhtar Kangana Ranaut

Last Friday, Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Simran’ and Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Lucknow Central’ locked horns at the box office. ‘Simran’ opened to mixed reviews, although Kangana Ranaut’s performance was widely applauded. ‘Lucknow Central’ opened to decent reviews, but left no mark.

After the first weekend, ‘Simran’ has minted around Rs 9.50 crore. ‘Lucknow Central’, on the other hand stands with Rs 7.39 crore. (Also Read: Simran movie review: Kangana shines through an average, mildly-flawed film)

The audience were probably expecting ‘Simran’ to be another ‘Queen’, which it didn’t turn out to be. However, Kangana’s strong performance is expected to bring in some more crowd. With ‘Haseena’, Bhoomi’ and ‘Newton’ releasing coming week, number of screens will be on a downfall this week. Hence, the ongoing week will largely decide whether the film is able to recover its budget. The film collected around Rs 2.43 crore on Friday, Rs 3.40 crore on Saturday and Rs 3.65 crore on Sunday.

Farhan Akhtar’s bad luck continues. After ‘Rock On 2’ flunking at the box office, ‘Lucknow Central’ looks no better. It collected approximately Rs 1.74 crore on opening Friday, Rs 2.65 crore on Saturday and Rs 3 crore on Sunday. It lags behind ‘Simran’ after first weekend and the buzz doesn’t seem to improve either. Again, the ongoing week decides how it ends.
