sonakshi sinha in akira

The Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Akira‘ that released yesterday has got a poor opening at the box office. The movie has raked in around Rs 4.25 crore nett. The earnings are not up to the mark, but if you compare them to other female-centric films it has managed better than ‘Sarbjit’, ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’, though the collections were lower than opening day collections of ‘Neerja’ and ‘Jai Gangaajal’.

‘Akira’ that is an action-packed film was expected to rake in more numbers from single screens, but it failed to get the desired numbers. Another factor is that there were too many releases on the same day like ‘Yea Toh Two Much Ho Gayaa’, ‘Dark Chocolate’, ‘Island City’, ‘Sunshine Music Tours and Travels’ and ‘Unforming – The Transformation’. Although, all these films weren’t as popular as ‘Akira’, it did hamper the business of the film. These films managed to rake in around Rs 10 lakh each.

The movie that was made on a budget of Rs 30 crore (including P&A) had already recovered Rs 15.5 crore through satellite and music rights, so let’s see how quickly the movie manages to recover the remaining 50%. ‘Akira’ is directed by AR Murugadoss and is a remake of the 2011 Tamil film ‘Mouna Guru’.
