Ayesha Jhulka On Fights Between Actresses

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Ayesha Jhulka talks about the truth behind the fights between actresses. She says, “Phele kya hota tha na, jab film release hoti thi toh usko boost karna padta tha, woh joh boost joh tha, woh sirf 2 hi cheezo se ho sakta tha, romace ya phir ladai kara do. So yeh 2 cheeze, director, producer ki ladai, actor, actress me karado, actor, director me kara do. Kabhi kabhi koi units ke bhole log toh bol bhi dete the, ‘Bura naa maana, yeh aise-aise ayega.’” (Earlier, to boost a film’s release, they’d create drama—either romance or conflicts between the cast and crew. Sometimes, crew members would even warn us, saying, ‘Don’t take it the wrong way, but this will happen.’)

“Bohot baar hua hai, Waqt Humara ke dauraan, mera aur Mamta ka jhagda kara diya tha ki, ‘They don’t see eye to eye’, par hum log eye to eye hi dekh rahe the, mai keh rahi hu, ‘Padha tune?’ she’s like, ‘Ha padha maine,’ phir hum show ke liye saath me Holland gaaye, waha humne itni masti ki… woh padh padh ki hasne laagi. Infact, agar koi film joh mujhe milne wali thi woh kisi aur ne karli toh jhagda ho gaya humara, even if we don’t even know each other. Toh aise hi hota tha, magar koi real agar incident hota tha toh uske baare me toh koi likhte hi nahi the, usme kuch maza hi nahi haina.” (This happened often. During Waqt Hamara Hai, rumors spread about a fight between Mamta and me, though we were perfectly fine. We even laughed about it while traveling to Holland for a show. If a film meant for me went to someone else, they’d claim we had a feud—even if we didn’t know each other! Real incidents never made the news because they lacked drama.)
