Niki Walia Diwali

Niki Walia has spent decades in the entertainment industry and continues to stay relevant by taking up diverse characters across projects. Having seen the industry change over the years, the actress has also developed her own way of looking at life, work and celebrations. On the occasion of Diwali, Niki spoke to us about her festive plans, how returning to India has changed her celebrations and why she no longer wants to give too much importance to other people’s opinions.

Niki Walia: I keep the core of the festival intimate with family

For Niki Walia, Diwali has never been about throwing grand parties or hosting a huge gathering. She prefers spending the occasion with her family and a close circle of friends. However, being back in India has given her another reason to look forward to the festival. She shares, “Diwali has always been purely personal for my family and me, with intimate dinners and card parties with our inner circle. But coming back to India rekindled something for me. I realised it’s the perfect opportunity to reach out to old friends. Now, I keep the core of the festival intimate with family, while enjoying the chance to catch up with people I’ve missed over the years.”

Does being a familiar face make her more conscious of celebrating festivals in public? Niki doesn’t think so. The actress believes her professional identity has little to do with her personal life. She says, “Not at all. I keep my career and my personal life strictly separate. Being a public figure only comes up when I attend formal Diwali events. Otherwise, my identity at home and my core personal values remain entirely untouched by it.”

Niki: When you stop looking outward for validation…

This Diwali, Niki also wants to focus on herself rather than worry about how others perceive her. She thinks that letting go of outside opinions gives a sense of freedom and peace. She shares, “Stepping away from the weight of other people’s opinions is one of the hardest shifts to make, but it is also the most liberating. When you stop looking outward for validation, you finally create the space to hear your own voice.”

The actress continued, “Hence, I plan on leaning into mindfulness and gratitude, appreciating everything, from the big milestones to the quiet, ordinary moments. I want to ground myself in a reality that is entirely mine, untouched by what anyone else thinks or expects. May this Diwali truly light up that new path for you, bringing more peace, clarity and deep contentment.”

Happy Diwali to all out readers.
