Dolly Singh opens up about facing body-shaming

During the exclusive conversation with us, Dolly Singh shared how she has faced thin-shaming and criticism for years since her younger days. Speaking about this, Dolly says, “Some people really don’t care, unko bass bolna hai aur unka kuch nahi kiya jaa sakta. I have heard many things growing up. From my parents, to relatives to schoolmates to teachers. Unko lagta tha that they are doing it out of concern. ‘Tum itni patli ho ke tumhara kuch ho jayega’. I was so young, and sometimes when I think about it, a young girl or a young kid should not be thinking about all this. But you have so much weight and baggage of just thinking that you are ugly. A 6-7 year old thinks that she is ugly and it is sad.

Further, Dolly Singh shared why she would not click her pictures during her teenage years. Dolly says, “My teenage years were so harrowing that I didn’t take a picture. I used to hate myself so much that I have those 5-7 years where I don’t have a picture of myself because I hated looking at myself, didn’t want to capture any of it. So, even if you look your prettiest best, you will have insecurities because people will have made you have them.” She added, “Because I would take fashion pictures, I would not smile. I would hide my smile for years. I was still like 20-21 where I was not smiling khul ke. Then, the internet gave me the power which made me realize that it does not matter. It’s okay if my teeth are like this, I can still smile and let it be.”

Further in the chat, Dolly Singh also shared how she deals with trolls and mean comments on social media.
