Actor Prateik Smita Patil opened up about his struggles with identity, sharing how difficult it was to accept being the son of actors Raj Babbar and Smita Patil back in the days. Both his parents were largely not available in his life—his mother passed away shortly after his birth, and his father wasn’t around much.
Prateik Smita Patil On Battling With His Identity And Accepting Parents
In a candid conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Prateik admitted that, for a long time, he hated them for being unavailable. This emotional distance led to feelings of abandonment and deep-rooted anger. Speaking about it, he said, “I didn’t accept myself as her son, I was in battle with my own identity. I hadn’t accepted it how I was but now I have embraced it pride that I’m Prateik Smita Patil. Then it was difficult, I was very confused with who I was.”
He expressed that this deep emotion came because he didn’t spend time with his parents and said, “Because of this I hated her and even my father, basically both my parents them being unavailable. People treat me differently, pity love and everything going on differently. I started hating them and I didn’t want to be associated with them.”
Over time, however, he has worked to heal and come to terms with it. He added, “As much as people were comparing me to her I was like ‘thik hai jo hai’ It doesn’t bother me, affect me, I don’t care. It was a part of their life, their memories and their experience with this person and I don’t care. Also because I was fighting this battle do I love her, do I love them, do I want to be their son? It just didn’t affect.”

He also generally stated about in a tender teenage kids turns to rebel and their emotions easily turn into hate. He also feels that it is very ‘easy to hate parents when we come from the space of trauma.’
Being raised by grandparents, Prateik had a difficult childhood, talking about sharing the emotions with her father as he was the only one he had, the actor revealed, “I never shared that relationship with him. Even though we made amends, tried to form a bond. I couldn’t have conversation with him. It’s okay, it was just the nature of the situation. It is extremely easy to hate and difficult to forgive and forget.”
