EXCLUSIVE: DYK, Ranbir Kapoor Was NOT The First Choice For Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya; Prateik Smita Patil Spills The Beans

Actor Prateik Smita Patil revealed that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali had once offered him the lead role in Saawariya, which eventually launched Ranbir Kapoor. Prateik recalled he was just 18 years old and in rehab, battling drug addiction.

Prateik Smita Patil Recalls When Sanjay Leela Bhansali Offered Him Ranbir Kapoor’s Saawariya

Prateik Smita Patil, in conversation with Bollywood Bubble, revealed that Bhansali saw potential in him and wanted to cast him, but he wasn’t in the right place mentally or physically to take on such a big opportunity. Confirming the same, he said, “It’s true, I was 18 years old, I was in rehab, and Mr. Bhansali called at my landline. I was in rehab at that time. He wasn’t aware; he wasn’t aware of how old I was too. I was 18 and I came to know years later when my grandfather told me, ‘Sanjay Leela Bhansali ka phone aaya tha lekin aap hospital mei the. I do hold some regrets, but the bigger picture happens so no regrets, and it has made me who I am today and has shaped me and moulded me.”

He furthermore talked about his biggest regret in life, and said, “One such regret is my grandparents saw the worst in me, I was a raging addict. My grandmother died seeing me as an addict that’s something I regret. I just wish I could have shown them the man I am today, living life with them. I feel their presence.”
