Ruma Sharma

For every actor who becomes an overnight sensation, hundreds spend years fighting silent battles behind the scenes. Actor Ruma Sharma belongs to the latter category. Today, the audience is appreciating her performance in her debut film Jeena Dil Se, but the road leading to this moment was anything but easy. Behind the smiles, red carpets, and screen appearances lies a decade-long story of struggle, uncertainty, financial challenges, and an unwavering belief in her dream.

Ruma Sharma Opens Up About Her Difficult Journey Before Jeena Dil Se

Born and raised in Delhi, Ruma’s acting journey began at a young age. She worked as a child artist for Doordarshan and actively participated in theatre before eventually moving to Mumbai to pursue acting professionally. Like thousands of aspiring actors who arrive in the city with big dreams, Ruma soon discovered that talent alone doesn’t guarantee opportunities.

“People often see the glamour of the industry, but very few understand what happens behind closed doors. There were times when I was surviving on the bare minimum, carefully managing every expense and wondering when my next opportunity would come,” Ruma shares. The actress admits that spending ten years in Mumbai while waiting for the right break was emotionally draining.

Ruma Sharma Opens Up About Her 10-Year Struggle In Mumbai

“There were moments when I questioned everything. You see people moving ahead, projects not working out, auditions not converting into roles, and sometimes you feel stuck despite giving your best. Ten years is a long time to keep believing in something that hasn’t happened yet.” While she continued to build her portfolio through projects such as Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan, CID, reality show Temptation Island India, and various digital ventures, the dream of a film debut remained unfinished.

The pressure wasn’t just professional—it was deeply personal. “When you’re struggling for years, it’s not just your career that’s affected. Your confidence, your mental health, your relationships, and even your sense of self-worth can be tested. There are days when you feel motivated and days when you feel completely defeated. The challenge is getting up the next morning and continuing anyway.”

According to the actress, one of the toughest parts of the journey was watching time pass while continuing to hold onto faith. “In Mumbai, every year feels important. You keep thinking, ‘Maybe this will be my year.’ Then another year passes. Then another. Eventually, you realise that success doesn’t always arrive according to your timeline.”

How Jeena Dil Se Changed Her Journey Forever

Ironically, the opportunity she had been waiting for over a decade arrived when she least expected it. Her debut film, Jeena Dil Se, came through an immediate casting call. Within a matter of hours, she was selected and flown out to begin shooting. “I received a call unexpectedly, got selected, and almost immediately started shooting. Everything happened so fast. After spending years waiting for the right opportunity, it felt unbelievable. Looking back now, I genuinely feel that project found me at the exact moment it was meant to.”

In Jeena Dil Se, Ruma plays Prachi, a pivotal character whose journey and wedding form an important part of the story. Despite the relatively short shooting schedule, the actress says the project holds immense emotional value because of what it represents in her life. “This film is much more than a debut project for me. It represents every rejection, every struggle, every difficult day, and every moment when I chose not to give up.”

Today, as positive feedback pours in from audiences, friends, family, and members of the industry, Ruma feels a sense of validation that words cannot fully describe. “The love I’ve received has been overwhelming. It reminds me that every difficult phase has a purpose. The journey was longer than I expected, but maybe that’s what makes this moment so special.”

In an industry where success stories are often measured by speed, Ruma Sharma’s journey is proof that persistence can be just as powerful. After ten years of navigating Mumbai’s unpredictable entertainment industry, surviving on hope as much as hard work, her debut with Jeena Dil Se is not just a career milestone; it’s the reward for never giving up on a dream.
