EXCLUSIVE: Suneel Darshan Claims Similarities Between Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Akshay Kumar’s Jaanwar; Says, “Agar Uska Producer Usse Acknowledge Kar Leta…”

Suneel Darshan is a renowned director turned producer, and most of his films star Akshay Kumar. While promoting his upcoming film Andaaz 2, the director got candid in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble about remaking one of his films. Suneel Darshan mentions that there are similarities between Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal and his film Jaanwar. The producer takes pride in inspiring makers today with his films.

Filmmaker Suneel Darshaan On Remaking Films Today

When asked if there is any film he would want to redo, director-producer Suneel Darshan said, “Main kaise banao? Meri filmon ki nakal itne log kar chuke hain. Ek film hai Jaanwar. Jaanwar ka English kya hota hai? Uski kahaani kaunsi hai? Aapne Animal dekhi hai na? Aapko pata hai na kaunsi kahaani hai? Lekin main claim nahi karta, kyunki us director ki treatment bohot anokhi thi, aur bohot achhe tareeke se usne us film ko treat kiya. Lekin jo sacchai hai, agar uska producer usse acknowledge kar leta toh bohot achha hota.”

Speaking of why he remained silent and never claimed the idea to be copied by others, the producer said, “I thought it was better to stay silent, because somehow, aur bhi filmein bani hain aise, aur bohot badi hit hui hain. I feel I’m inspiring people. Mera cinema unko inspire karta ja raha hai, aur wo bohot badi blockbusters ban rahi hain. Ek hero hai, jo bohot bada hero hai. Usne bhi ek film ki hai jo meri film se bohot, bohot kareeb hai. Aur jis writer se unhone story kharidi thi, wo bhi ek bohot bade writer hai. Aur wo picture bhi bohot badi hit hui.”

He added, “Toh agar aap usse bhi dekhenge, toh strangely wo meri film se bohot, bohot similar hai. So I feel very happy. You know, I don’t feel like ‘Arre isne meri film ki copy ki.’ Nahi. Meri film se inspire hokar kisi ne aur achhi film banayi, toh khushi ki baat hai, hai na?“

Suneel Darshan On Director Luv Ranjan

Suneel said that Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan is inspired by his film Jaanwar. He said, “Mere ek ex-assistant the, Luv Ranjan. Maine hi, matlab, pehle sirf ek hi insaan ke saath kaam kiya tha. Mere paas kuch 6–7 saal kaam kiya tha usne. Phir unhe Kumar Mangat, hamare dost unhone break diya. Aur usne ek film banayi. Mujhe usmein bhi aisa laga ki kahin na kahin, jo saal usne mere saath bitaye, wo uske dimaag mein peeche rahe honge. Aur usne bhi bohot achhi film banayi, kyunki usne waqai mein bohot achhi filmein banayi hain. So I feel happy. That’s, I would say, the generosity of you as a maker. Meri film meri hai, aur unki film unki hai. Kahaniyaan inspirations hoti hain. And I feel, if I can inspire anyone, that’s my greatest achievement.”
