EXCLUSIVE: Swara Bhasker ADMITS Producers, Actors Are SCARED Of Working With Her; States, “I’m An Example For Everything Except…”

Swara Bhasker candidly opened up about the challenges she has faced in the film industry, particularly regarding her reputation and casting. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, she revealed that the label of controversy has often scared producers and led to biases against her. Despite her talent and experience, casting directors and actors have made comments implying that she is difficult to cast. Bhasker expressed her frustration about being stereotyped and overlooked. Swara Bhasker ADMITS Producers, Actors Are SCARED Of Working With Her

When asked if there has been a time when her idea didn’t match with the makers, Swara Bhasker said, “Controversy ka tag definitely has scared producers like 100%. Aur logon ne mujhe ye directly bola hai. Main kuch man-ghadant nahi keh rahi. Casting directors ne mujhe bola, ‘Humein brief milta hai, cast a girl like Swara Bhasker.’ Toh hum kehte hain, ‘Toh Swara se hi pooch lete hain?’ Kehte hain, ‘Nahi nahi, Swara se mat poochho — like Swara Bhasker.’ Actors ne bhi bola hai mujhe, ‘Jab hum audition dete hain, toh kehte hain, ‘Swara ka wo role yaad hai? Us jaisa karo.’ Matlab, I’m an example for everything, except they won’t touch me or cast me. So yeah, that has definitely happened. But yaar, you know what it’s okay.”

Swara Claims Bollywood Focuses More On Projects Than Art

Speaking of, if Bollywood films today showcase art more than commercialising the process, Swara said, “Art toh ban hi nahi sakta, matlab kitna bhi kaho, film ka medium pure art medium toh hai hi nahi na. Woh itna mehenga medium hai ki usme business ka hamesha se ek bada angle raha hai. 2000s ke decade mein ek trend aaya tha — ki film ke budget ka 40% marketing ke liye hoga. Toh aapne already art ko 40% kam kar diya — marketing mein daal diya. Ab bacha 60%, usi pe aap art bana rahe ho. Toh art film mein pure art aapko kabhi mil hi nahi sakta.”

She continued, “Khaas karke aaj joh hum kar rahe hain abh toh shayad kuch chhoti-moti independent films hi hongi jahan aapko pure art dikhega, jo bilkul market considerations ko ignore karti hain. Par hum jis type ki films bana rahe hain, uska pura process hi project-based hogaya hai. Hum art nahi bana rahe, project bana rahe hain. ‘Acha, yeh star le lo, yeh star le lo. In dono pe itna budget mil jayega. Yeh producer aa jayega, Netflix ya Amazon deal fix ho jayegi. Ab writer dhoondte hain.’ Kitni baar hota hai ki script aane se pehle hi stars sign ho jaate hain. ‘Arey yaar, in dono ki dates mili hain 2026 ki — kuch bana lete hain!’ And I’m not saying it’s a good or bad thing. I’m just saying, this is the truth of the industry.”

Swara Recalls Her Friends Words

The Prem Ratan Dhan Payo actress said, “Meri ek friend hain, Anarkali Vijay ji, agar kisi ne Anarkali of Aarah dekhi ho, unhone usme ‘Bulbul Pandey’ ka role kiya tha (like Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg). Vijay ji acting coach bhi hain. Unhone ek bahut sahi baat boli thi, ‘Dekho Swara, hamari industry mein jo acting karne aate hain, hum ‘act’ bahut kam karte hain, aur ‘ting’ bahut zyada karte hain.’ And I was like — this is so true! Aap gym jaake body bana rahe ho, fillers, Botox karwa rahe ho taaki ache lago, networking kar rahe ho, parties mein dikh rahe ho, events attend kar rahe ho, lekin riyaz? Bahut kam actors karte hain.”

She added, “Main apne experience se keh rahi hoon, har doosra performing artist, singer ho ya dancer, roz riyaz karta hai. Painter roz paint karta hai, writer roz likhta hai. Sirf actor roz acting nahi karta. Aur phir kehte hain, ‘Good actors kam kyun hain?’ Wahi baat hai na. So, unfortunately, I’m not blaming anyone, but the structuring of this medium is like that. Film aur jab main film kehti hoon, mera matlab poora audiovisual medium, OTT, films, short stories, documentaries, yeh actually actor ka medium nahi hai. Yeh technician ka medium hai, director ka, editor ka, cinematographer ka. “

Concluding, she said, “Actor ka asli medium hai theatre. Kyunki jab aap stage par live audience ke saamne khade hote ho — tab wo purer form of art hota hai. Stage pe aapke paas chhupne ki koi jagah nahi hoti. Aap apne talent mein nange hote ho. Agar aap talented ho, toh audience ki nazar aap par tikti hai. Koi background music, koi flattering angles nahi hote, sirf aap aur aapka craft. Jaise Natyashastra mein likha hai, aapko apne Angik Abhinay, Vachik Abhinay, Satvik Abhinay, aur Aharya Abhinay use karne hote hain. That’s why I always say, theatre is the medium of the actor. Wahi jagah hai jahan aapko pure art milta hai.”
