Karan Johar
For his Met Gala debut, Karan Johar arrived and made heads turn in a custom Manish Malhotra creation that paid homage to legendary Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma. Instead of playing it safe with a conventional couture look, KJo donned an ensemble that felt like a living canvas. Titled ‘Framed in Eternity,’ the stop-and-stare, jaw-dropping couture featured a sharply tailored jacket with an almost regal structure, giving him a strong, sculpted silhouette, especially at the shoulders.
But the real show-stealer was his dramatic cape. The nearly six-foot-long fabric that flowed around him was made with hand-painted elements inspired by Varma’s iconic motifs, including delicate lotuses, ornate pillars, and graceful swans. As he moved, every element on the cape seemed to come alive as well.
Isha Ambani
For her Met Gala return, Isha Ambani opted for a custom draped saree by designer Gaurav Gupta. The saree -conceptualised as a wearable artwork, combining fluid drapes with sculptural elements to transform the diva’s body into a canvas that celebrates art. The ensemble – created with pure gold threads, featured intricate hand-painted motifs inspired by traditional Pichwai art in muted gold and earthy tones.
She added a layer of emotions and style by pairing the saree with a blouse, richly embellished with diamonds and metallic zardozi work. Alongside the jewellery she wore, the ornament part of the blouse were also part of her mother, Nita Ambani’s personal jewellery collection.

Manish Malhotra
This year, Manish celebrated India and the art found here by wearing a classic Indian bandhgala to the 2026 Met Gala. However, it wasn’t any regular bandhgala. The ace designer elevated the ensemble into something far more conceptual by layering it with a dramatic architectural cape, that paid tribute to Mumbai, the city that shaped his creative journey.
Rendered in soft ivory and white tones, the ensemble featured intricate surface work that blended traditional Indian techniques with a modern, sculptural edge. It features delicate chikankari, rich zardozi, zari, and kasab embroidery. What truly set the look apart was its references to Mumbai via its cinematic and cultural landmarks that were subtly woven into the design.
