2020 has been a tough year for everyone across the globe. However, it’s the artist that came to people’s rescue in these darkest times and the places that kept people entertained and occupied and still continue to do so are the
OTT platforms that have been pushing new content every now and then. Today, in our year end special we will take a look at some of the best releases on OTT, this year.

1. Paatal Lok: Paatal Lok, a gritty crime thriller from Amazon Prime, is one of the must-watch web shows on 2020. Directed by Avinash Arun Dhawre and Prosit Roy, the series stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Neeraj Kabi, Abhishek Banerjee and Gul Panag in lead roles. From the plight of journalism to the politics of the country, everything is nicely woven in the series.

2. Ludo: Anurag Basu directorial released on Diwali and swayed the audience with its storyline and treatment. With an ensemble cast of Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf and Pearle Maaney, and a kickass music by Pritam, Ludo definitely makes for a great watch.

3. Bulbbul: After Paatal Lok’s success on Amazon Prime Video, Anushka Sharma’s next production Bulbbul joined the roster of Indian shows and movies on Netflix in June. This horror or supernatural thriller film is directed by Anvita Dutt and features Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Rahul Bose, Paoli Dam and Parambrata Chattopadhyay in lead roles. It’s gripping and what we loved the most about it was that more than representing actual witches, this one makes patriarchy the real demon.

4. Bhonsle:  This Manoj Bajpayee-starrer shows the talented actor essaying the role of a retired cop. The movie during the time period when political pressures in Maharashtra was forcing migrant labourers to move out of the state. It also features Abhishek Banerjee of Paatal Lok fame. If you still haven’t checked it out, we encourage you to watch this underrated gem ASAP

5. Panchayat: Amazon Prime Video’s Panchayat will win your heart with its realistic storytelling.The amazing ensemble cast of Panchayat, which includes Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta and Raghuvir Yadav, was a cherry on the cake. The series traces the journey of an engineering graduate Abhishek, who for lack of a better job option joins as secretary of a panchayat office in a remote village of Uttar Pradesh.

6. Mirzapur 2:  One of the most anticipated web shows of 2020, Mirzapur 2, has to be on your binge-watch list. The sequel to a successful Season 1 witnessed Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit’s attempt to take over the throne of Mirzapur from the Kaleen Bhaiya played by the amazing Pankaj Tripathi after losing his brother Bablu played by Vikrant Massey and wife Sweety played by Shriya Pilgaonkar as he is aided by Shweta Tripathi’s character of Golu Gupta.

7. Scam 1992: And finally, we have Scam 1992 adapted from journalist Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu’s book The Scam: Who Won, who Lost, who Got Away, is one of the biggest hits of 2020. The series stars Pratik Gandhi, Sharib Hashmi, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Hemant Kher and Nikhil Dwivedi in lead roles. Scam 1992 follows the life of Harshad Mehta, a stockbroker who took the stock market to dizzying heights and his catastrophic downfall.

8. Churails: Directed by the critically acclaimed Asim Abbasi, Churails is a first-of-its-kind show that challenges the patriarchal norms of society. Set in Karachi, Churails is a story of four women from different walks of life who come together to open a covert detective agency to expose cheating husbands amongst the city’s elite. These self-proclaimed Churails run their operations under the guise of a fashion store named “Halal Designs” that specialize in conservative women’s attire. As their operations expand, they come to be the saviours of abused, mistreated and harassed women, and their search for a missing girl brings them face to face with the exploitative world of talent agencies, escort services, and cosmetic companies.

9. Ek Jhoothi Love Story: Zindagi’s second original ‘Ek Jhoothi Love Story’ on ZEE5 is a romantic comedy consisting of Salma and Sohail who live a simple life yet aim for the stars when it comes to a life partner. Both create artificial online accounts to find romance through their alter egos with their crushes Natalia and Nofil. Online Salma becomes Natalia and enjoys the attention she gets from Nofil, who is in-fact no other than Sohail’s fake profile. Both Salma and Sohail are living a lie when they find their real lives forever intertwined. But can they leave behind mistruths and find true love in each other?
