Over the years, we have seen many Bollywood sequels. While some become hit, some can’t live up to the expectations of the audience. But the trend of making sequels in Bollywood doesn’t stop. In the last two years, Bollywood as an industry had a really tough time due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the shutdown of theatres, the release dates of several movies were postponed, but last year after the re-opening of theatres, a few mega movies released and many movies are in the pipeline to hit the big screen. Also, there a few sequels that are slated to release in 2022 and release dates of some are yet to be announced. While some might also take the OTT route due to the pandemic.

Here’s the list of the most awaited Bollywood sequels to look forward.

Upcoming Bollywood Sequels

Badhaai Do

Badhaai Do is the sequel to 2018 movie Badhaai Ho that was a huge success at the box-office for the unconventional storyline. It starred Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra. The movie broke all stereotypes as the movie dealt with pregnancy of an older couple (played by Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta) with adult children. The second part, Badhaai Do, stars Rajkummar Rao, and Bhumi Pednekar. Directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni, the film is expected to release in theatres in February.

Heropanti 2

Heropanti 2 is a sequel to the 2014 film Heropanti that starred Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon. The sequel is directed by Ahmed Khan, written by Rajat Arora and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. It stars Tiger Shroff, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tara Sutaria. Tiger has some high octane action sequences in the movie. Heropanti 2 will be releasing on Eid (April 29) this year.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a horror comedy film directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Bhushan Kumar. It is a standalone sequel to 2007 iconic Bhool Bhulaiyaa directed by Priyadarshan. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 stars Kartik Aaryan, Tabu and Kiara Advani. The film’s release has been delayed due to Covid-19. It is said that the film might take the OTT route.

Ek Villain Returns

Ek Villain Returns is a sequel to Shraddha Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh’s 2014 thriller Ek Villain.The Mohit Suri directorial will hit the theatres on July 8, 2022, on the occasion of Eid. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms. The film stars John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria.

Gadar 2

Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol will be returning to the big screen with Gadar’s sequel. The movie has already gone on floors and its first schedule was recently shot in Himachal Pradesh. Original Gadar director Anil Sharma is directing the sequel. No release date is confirmed yet, but it is said to hit the screens in 2022.

OMG 2

OMG – Oh My God! 2 is a comedy-drama written and directed by Amit Rai. It is a sequel to Umesh Shukla’s 2012 film OMG – Oh My God! that featured Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Mithun Chakraborty, Mahesh Majrekar in pivotal roles. The sequel stars Akshay, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam.
