The trend of biopics have started a few years back and some of the filmmakers have given blockbusters in this genre. Biopics specially the sports biopics give a closer to real-life heroes and stories and audiences feel motivated, and inspired. In the previous years, we witnessed some of the real-life stories of prominent sports personalities like Mary Kom, Milkha Singh and others through their biopics. Some of them have done quite well at the box office. Also, in the year 2022, there is a list of biopics that are slated to release and there are some whose release dates are yet to be announced. Chakda Xpress

Chakda Xpress is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami. The sports drama stars Anushka Sharma in the lead and the teaser of the upcoming movie released today. The movie will release on Netflix. Sharing the the first look, Anushka wrote: “It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. Chakda Xpress is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket. At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport. This film is a dramatic retelling of several instances that shaped her life and also women’s cricket”.

Shabaash Mithu

Taapsee Pannu star in Shabaash Mithu, the biopic of Indian woman cricketer Mithali Raj. Backed by Viacom18 Studios, the biographical film is directed by noted Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji. Taapsee is excited to be part of the film and so are we to see her in the biopic.

Maidaan

Maidaan is also a biographical sports film based on the golden era of Indian football (1952–1962). It stars Ajay Devgn who plays football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Maidaan is directed by Amit Sharma and produced by Zee Studios in collaboration with Bayview Projects LLP. It is slated to hit the theatres on June 3, 2022.

Sourav Ganguly’s Biopic

A biopic will also be made on former captain of Indian cricket team and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. It is being produced by Luv Ranjan Films. The cast is yet to be announced. Ganguly had earlier shared on Twitter, “Cricket has been my life, it gave confidence and ability to walk forward with my head held high, a journey to be cherished. Thrilled that Luv Films will produce a biopic on my journey and bring it to life for the big screen.”

Toolsidas Junior

It is the last movie of actor Rajiv Kapoor. It is an inspiring sports drama bankrolled by Ashutosh Gowariker, Sunita Gowariker, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar. The sports drama is based on snooker champion Toolsidas. It also stars Sanjay Dutt. The release date is yet to be announced.
