While the entertainment industry is all about diversity, you’re really looked at in a certain way if you are not fitting into the mould well. We have witnessed some of the most talented actresses in the history of Indian cinema but yet they were asked to alter themselves to look a certain way. Cosmetic surgeries, breast implants, nose jobs, skin correction and whatnot, Bollywood actresses have been advised to undergo all sorts of surgical procedures by filmmakers and others.

Priyanka Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez and other Bollywood actresses were asked to fix things when it comes to their physical appearance. The actresses have been vocal enough to talk about these incidents. Check it out below:

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra revealed a shocking incident with a filmmaker in her memoir unfinished when she was asked to get a boob job done. The actress wrote, “After a few minutes of small talk, the director/producer told me to stand up and twirl for him. I did. He stared at me long and hard, assessing me, and then suggested that I get a boob job, fix my jaw, and add a little more cushioning to my butt. If I wanted to be an actress, he said, I’d need to have my proportions ‘fixed’, and he knew a great doctor in LA he could send me to. My then-manager voiced his agreement with the assessment.”

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez was also asked to get a nose job and not just that, she was also asked to change her name. The actress told Pinkvilla, “I was told, ‘Do a nose job’, ‘Change your name’. So many people! In that moment, I thought, ‘Is it really needed?’ I decided to just be me. I was quite calm and cool and collected about it, and then things worked out for me.”

Radhika Madan

Rakhi Madan has been winning hearts with her performance in the movie Angezi Medium and Shiddat. But she too was criticized for her body type and was asked to undergo cosmetic surgery. The actress had written in a social media post, “I quit TV to do films. I began auditioning, but I faced rejections. I was told I needed to have a particular shape & size, & that I needed surgery. But mujhe toh main bahut sahi lagti hun. Who are these people to tell me I’m not pretty (sic).”

Esha Gupta

Esha Gupta is one of the most gorgeous divas and her pictures on much loved by fans. But the actress was advised to undergo skin lightening treatments. She told Hindustan Times, “When I became an actor, and my first film came, I remember when I used to go to meetings or auditions, people used to say, ‘Oh, you should do your colour light or take those injections, which cost a lot of money’. Because a lot of actresses have done that and changed the colour… but I never understood that concept.”

Nandita Das

Nandita Das is one of the most talented actresses in Bollywood. But she has always opened up about facing colourism in Bollywood. She had once said in an interview, “When there is a role of a rural woman, or a Dalit woman, or the role of a slum-dweller, then my skin colour is fine. But the minute I have to play an educated, upper-middle-class character, invariably someone comes up to me and says ‘I know you don’t like to lighten your skin, but you know this role is of an upper-middle-class educated person.”
