Here’s a look at Koffee With Karan highlights

Introducing the elephant in the room, Karan straightaway jumped to the question of him dating Ananya Panday. To which, Aditya very coyly shared the same statement that Karan used in his previous episode. He said. ‘Ask me no secrets, I’ll tell you no lies.’ Reacting to Ananya calling herself ‘Ananya Coy Kapur, Aditya said he is Aditya ‘Joy’ Kapur. When KJo asked if he is joyous in this situationship, he said ‘I’m quite joyous.’ However, he said that Ananya is pure joy and bliss.

Arjun Kapoor on his marriage plans with Malaika Arora

Given that Arjun and Malaika have been in a relationship for a while now, Karan Johar asked if there are any future plans. Arjun said, “I think at this point, this is the part of my life that right now I want to take it as it comes. I think it would be unfair to be sitting here without her and talking about the future, I think that would be the most respectful thing. Once we reach that stage, we’ll come and talk about it together or be able to speak about it together. I’m very happy where I am and I think we make no bones about the fact that we survived through whatever we’ve had to be in this comfortable happy space. But I don’t want to speak about anything specifically right now because I feel that’s unfair to the relationship to talk alone about it.”

Arjun Kapoor on his box office failures

Speaking about his failures at the box office, the Ishaqzaade actor revealed, “There is so much adversity I have faced in my entire life. I think I have spoken on this couch before about many aspects of my life. I think I look at the positive. I’ve had the opportunity where I’ve done well when I started. I’m the first actor in my generation to deliver a 100-crore film with Dharma and Sajid Nadiadwala, which was 2 States. I have done a film like Ki & Ka that did well where I played a house husband.

He said, “I have done all kinds of work, I’ve worked with so many people. So, I have to look at the positives and understand this is a phase. Your selection can go wrong. The audience can change the way they feel about you. You have to keep being honest and sincere and keep trying as long as you’re being given opportunities. Sometimes you will be given opportunities in the mainstream way. Sometimes you’ve to find the correct film and there are so many examples in the past where when you look at all the big stars and their careers, they have had phases.

Giving the example of Akshay Kumar who once revealed that he wanted to leave the profession after delivering 11-12 flops. “I’ve been part of films that didn’t pan out. But I didn’t do them with the intent of making bad films. They just turned out to not be the best. You can’t control the box office, unfortunately. I’m patient and my time will come. All the wrongs can get right with one Friday. But I’ve to just keep at it and not get discouraged.

He further added, “It does take a toll and I’ll not deny it. I have my moments and I’ve had my upheaval but at no point am I discouraged from this profession. At no point do I believe that the audience will not respect the work that I’m doing if I do a good film.”

Aditya Roy Kapur on his failures with Gumraah and Om

Asking Aditya if he had thoughts of leaving the profession after multiple flops. He said, “Yes, those thoughts do creep in and sometimes they creep in on the weekend of a film not doing well. On a Sunday or a Monday, suddenly all the energy is sucked out of everything and you’re just left with yourself and your thoughts and thoughts can creep in. But it’s very important to just shun them away. Early on, I came in and I got to the sensation that my first three films didn’t do well and then a couple did so I was sensitised to that very early on. Nothing is permanent, your successes and your failures,” adding that people just should keep believing in themselves.

Arjun Kapoor on social media trolls

Speaking about the same, he said, “No person is not being affected. It’s about dealing with it. But it also shows their upbringing and their culture. Those people who are putting up random comments, you also know that they are trying to get your attention. Earlier, I used to get a bit worked up and wanted to respond all the time. Then I realised I had to allow it to sink in, and understand what the reason is. Why these desperate people are trying to get my attention and try and detach me from the reaction? Does it affect me? Yes, it does.” He then added, “These are the same people that will take a selfie with you when they see you doing a shoot or an event.”

Karan Johar on people criticising Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s episode

KJo said, “I thought it was one of the most honest episodes and the most heartfelt episodes that I did with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. I think all three of us came clean on so much of our emotional heft, so many of our feelings. And then there was a ridiculous kind of after-effect. I just want to put it out there that episode angered me and the reaction angered me. I thought it was one of our best episodes.”

They were outstandingly honest, they were earnest, they spoke so much, they shared so much, they were so gracious. And then you’re fucking talking about some nonsense. I’m like ‘What do you know about somebody’s personal life and marriage? And what is happening in your own house? Focus on your family is what I wanted to tell all of them. I want to show them all my fucking middle finger,” he continued.

Aditya on getting replaced by Kartik Aaryan in Aashiqui 3

I think he’s the perfect person to take the baton forward. There’s no chance I could be in this because, in the second part, my character went for a long swim from which he is not returning. I feel it is great,” Aditya said. He added, “Where will I come back now? My spirit will come back and he’s hovering over Kartik Aaryan.”
