Bollywood has seen many remakes of either South or Hollywood films. Some filmmakers have even helmed Hindi remakes of other foreign language films. Some remakes failed to live up to our expectations while some created a storm at the box office. Popular remakes like Chachi 420 (1997), Hera Pheri (2000), Hum Tum (2004), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) are still etched in our memories. The trend of banking on the popularity of biggest blockbusters has been going on in Bollywood and will continue in the future as well.

In the upcoming days, there are some interesting Bollywood remakes coming up. Shooting of some have already commenced while some are awaiting its release. From Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan’s Vikram Vedha to Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, here’s the list of some exciting Bollywood remakes to watch out for.

List of upcoming Bollywood remakes

Laal Singh Chaddha

Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha is one of the most awaited movies of this year. It is the official Hindi remake of the 1994 cult classic, Forrest Gump. Based on a 1986 novel by Winston Groom, the film was a blockbuster. It starred Tom Hanks. It bagged six Academy Awards in 1995, including Best Actor. Laal Singh Chaddha also marks Bollywood debut of South actor Naga Chaitanya. It is slated to hit the theatres on April 14, 2022.

Looop Lapeta

Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin are starring in the Hindi adaptation of the critically-acclaimed German thriller Run Lola Run. The original was written and directed by Tom Tykwer and starred Franka Potent. The trailer of Looop Lapeta was unveiled on January 13. The Intern

Deepika Padukone will star in the Hindi remake of Hollywood film. Earlier, Rishi Kapoor was to reprise the role of Ben Whittaker played by Robert Di Nero . But due to his demise, the film’s production was stopped. But later, Amitabh Bachchan was taken on board. Deepika is reprising the role of Anne Hathway. The 2015 comedy-drama is the story of Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old retired man, who applies and gets accepted in a senior intern programme. The Intern Hindi remake is directed by Amit Sharma and it will release in summer 2022.

Jersey

Jersey is the Hindi remake of Telugu film by the same name. The original starred Nani and Shraddha Srinath. The movie was well received by audience. The Hindi remake stars Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur. Gowtam Tinnanuri who has directed the original has helmed the Hindi version as well. It was slated to hit the theatres on December 31 but due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, the release date has been postponed.

Vikram Vedha

Vikram Vedha is yet another Bollywood remake of Tamil film by the same name. The original Tamil film starred R. Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. It was one of the biggest Tamil hits of 2017. Original writer-director duo Pushkar and Gayatri has helmed the Hindi version and it stars Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan. It is scheduled for release on September 30, 2022.

Selfiee

On January 12, Karan Johar announced the remake of Malayalam-language film Driving License that is titled Selfiee. It starred Prithviraj Sukumaran as a superstar and Suraj Venjaramoodu as a motor vehicle inspector. Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi star in the Hindi remake.

Bholaa

Ajay Devgn will star in the Hindi remake of Tamil film, titled, Kaithi. It went on the floors on January 13, 2022. The remake will be produced by SR Prakashbabu and Reliance Entertainment. Kaithi starred Karthi alongside Narain and Dheena.

Hit

Rajkummar Rao will star in the Hindi remake of Telugu cop drama HIT. He had started shooting for the film. Sanya Malhotra is playing the female lead in the film. HIT stands for Homicide Intervention Team. Vishwak Sen and Ruhani Sharma starred in the Telugu film.
