1. Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui essayed the role of Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of the Indian political party Shiv Sena in the 2019 film, Thackeray, written and directed by Abhijit Panse. The biopic traces the journey of Bal Keshav Thackeray from a cartoonist to an influential leader in Indian politics. The film released on 25 January 2019, right after the 93rd birthday of Bal Thackeray i.e on 23 January.

2. Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut plays former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the biographical drama film, Thalaivii. The film chronicles the life of actor-turned-politician Jayalalithaa (Ranaut), her relationship with the legendary M. G. Ramachandran (Arvind Swami) and her tumultuous rise to power as the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

3. Vivek Oberoi

Vivek Oberoi portrayed the role of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in PM Narendra Modi. The film takes us through various real-life milestones in PM Modi’s life – right from his early years to his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, to becoming the Prime Minister of India. In addition to Vivek, the film also stars Boman Irani, Manoj Joshi, Barkha Bisht, and Zarina Wahab in pivotal roles.

4. Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher as Dr. Manmohan Singh, the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 under the United Progressive Alliance. Akshaye Khanna played the role of Sanjaya Baru, who was the former PM’s media advisor, directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and written by Mayank Tewari, based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru.

5. Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta essayed the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom. Her role was quite appreciated by the audience. The film also starred Vaani Kapoor, it is inspired from real life hijacking events in India by Khalistani separatists during the 1980s, such as the Indian Airlines Flight 423, 405 and 421 hijackings.

6. Paresh Rawal

Paresh Rawal essayed the role of Sardar Patel in the 1994 biographical drama film, Sardar. The film was based on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of India’s greatest freedom fighters, directed by Ketan Mehta and written by noted playwright Vijay Tendulkar. His transformation into one of the most politically relevant men in India was seen as a praise-worthy feat.

7. Richa Chadha

Richa Chadha essayed the role of CM Tara Roopram in political drama film, Madam Chief Minister, which is said to be loosely based on the life of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawat. Helmed by Subhash Kapoor who has previously directed the Jolly LLB franchise.
