Since we are all gearing up to get into the New Year in a few days, take a look back at the top controversies that have created the massive noise on social media. Right from Raj Kundra in the pornography case, Kangana Ranaut’s infamous Twitter war with Diljit Dosanjh over farmer’s protest to Pearl V Puri’s rape case and Nisha Rawal and Karan Mehra’s public spat, these controversies of 2021 have completely shocked everyone.

1. Raj Kundra embroiled in a pornography case:

In July 2021, actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband and businessman Raj Kundra was arrested in an alleged porn case by Mumbai Police. It was reported that Kundra’s alleged connection to Umesk Kamat and the company that uploaded such pornographic content landed him in trouble. He was granted bail in September this year.

2. Kangana Ranaut ranting on farmer’s protest:

Kangana and controversies go hand-in-hand. The Panga actor was called out on Twitter this year for misidentifying an elderly woman at the farmers’ protest in Delhi as one of the organisers of the Shaheen Bagh demonstration. After making a tweet, she immediately deleted it but netizens slammed the actor for spreading the wrong news. Soon after, a Twitter war with Diljit Dosanjh took place that created momentum on social media. In fact, her Twitter account was also suspended as she violated its rules.

3. Pearl V Puri accused of sexual assault:

The Naagin 3 star left everyone shocked when he was accused of allegedly raping a minor. He was even arrested for the same. The entire Telly world came to his support and dismissed those reports. Pearl even released an official statement on his Instagram. An excerpt of his statement read, “Thank you for keeping faith in me and I am a firm believer of #Satyamevjatate. I trust in the law, the judiciary of my country and God up there. Please keep your dua’s coming.”

4. Amit Kumar’s statement on Indian Idol 12:

During one special episode, the contestants were given a tribute to legendary singer Kishore Kumar. However, the episode received immense flak from netizens but what came as a shocker was Amit Kumar’s statement which created controversy. In an interview, Kishore Da’s son revealed that he himself didn’t enjoy the episode. Kumar even claimed that he was told to praise and uplift the contestant despite their singing performance as it was a tribute to Kishore da.

5. Munmun Dutta, Yuvika Chaudhary casteist slur:

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actor Munmun Dutta using the word ‘Bhangi’ in of her videos had landed her in legal trouble. Earlier, she was booked under SC/ST act at Haryana’s Hansi. Furthermore, a case was registered at Haryana’s Police Station under Section 3(1) (u) of the SCs and STs Act. Similarly, Yuvika Chaudhary was also slammed for the same when she used the word which hurt the sentiments of SC and ST. They both even released a statement, claiming that they were unaware of the meaning of the word.

6. Nisha Rawal and Karan Mehra’s ugly spat:

The controversy of this telly couple had taken an ugly turn back in June when she filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband. Karan claimed that Nisha suffers from bipolar disorder. Furthermore, Nisha even said that Karan has an extramarital affair. However, now they have parted ways.

7. OTT series hurting religious sentiments:

Reportedly, The Family Man 2 and Tandav were highly criticized and were in the hot waters for hurting religious sentiments. For the former, it was said that people were hurt that the series showed Tamils as terrorists while another one said that The Tamil Nadu government wanted a ban on the series as they felt that the show will hurt the sentiments of Eelam Tamils and also the people of Tamil Nadu.
