Andrew Garfield saves Jimmy Kimmel’s life in true spider-man style at the Emmys, latter reveals

Yesterday, the best of American television in the last year were awarded at the Emmy Awards 2022, the highest honour in the TV industry. The night had some memorable moments including Zendaya creating history with her second win for Euphoria, Squid Game also breaking new ground with 2 awards and Ted Lasso continuing its streak as Best Comedy. But there was one more memorable incident that happened, that was unfortunately not caught on camera. It involved Andrew Garfield and late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, and it literally was a matter of life and death.

In his opening monologue during last night’s episode at Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host shared the anecdote of the close call he had with an accident and how Andrew Garfield prevented it from happening. In the start of the Emmys, host Kenan Thompson did a special dancing number on many popular shows theme songs including Friends, Stranger Things and The Brady Brunch. As entertaining as the whole performance was, it turned a little scary as well for Jimmy.

The last song in the performance was from Game Of Thrones and the background dancers used spears for it. Talking about what happened, Jimmy shared, “About halfway through the dance, the tip of one of the spears comes flying off the handle straight at us at our table. And out of nowhere, and I swear to God this happened, Andrew Garfield lunges forward and snatches it out of the air, like Spider-Man.”

Jimmy further shared that while the moment wasn’t caught on camera, he did take a picture with the spear and Andrew post the incident, and he even took the spear with himself as a souvenir. He also insisted that Andrew, in fact, might be spider-man in real. He said, “Like he might be really Spider-Man. Just as Spider-Man would have done were he in an undercover situation. His shirt came open; my wife almost had to be resuscitated. It was incredible.”

Both Jimmy and Andrew were nominated at last night’s ceremony. While Jimmy bagged the nod in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category for his show, Andrew was nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for his performance in Under The Banner Of Heaven.
