Director Anand L Rai’s ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns‘ takes off from where the original ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ ended five years ago. Well we have Tanuja Trivedi and Manu Sharma back along with Pappi, Payal, Jassi and Raja Awasthi and others. The’mismatched’ couple (Kangana and R Madhavan) is already four years into their marriage. But soon find the sparks between them die.

It ends with an insane-with-rage Manu being dragged away by the asylum attendants. While Tanu calls Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal) to head to London and rescue his friend. Tanu once again returns to her hometown Kanpur, going back to her Bohemian ways. A moping Manu finds solace in a Haryanvi athlete Kusum (Kangana) – who resembles the woman he once loved. Will Manu find love with Kusum? Or will Tanu be able to return to Manu’s life once again? You will have to watch the movie to know.

‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is Kangana Ranaut’s movie all the way. She has overshadowed everyone else. Kangana is magnificently effective in a double role. One as doll-like drama queen ‘Tanu’, with her peachy look and rosebud mouth and the other as earthy ‘Kusum’, who sports a flat sporty figure with large, dusty teeth and Haryanvi diction. Each role is performed with sensitivity and flair. The actress has performed the roles with such finesse that it becomes difficult at times to tell that it is the same actress playing the two roles

On the other hand Madhavan does a fine job as quiet, often morose, sometimes hopeful Manu. His shy endearing smile is a perfect foil to Kangana’s effervescent dual role.

The best is Deepak Dobriyal as Manu’s chatty buddy Pappi. Deepak carries off superb lines with breezy perfection and a sparkling performance. Jimmy Shergill too adds his charm to the quirky movie, as Tanu’s smouldering gangster-contractor ex, is reliably intense. Aanand L. Rai merits applause for his riotous story.

Do watch the movie a laugh riot, this weekend.
