Despite mixed reviews from the critics, Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s film ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ has managed to get a good opening at the box office. As per the report in Box Office India, the film has managed to mint approximately Rs 12 crore on its opening day. We had earlier reported that this film has received approximately 3000 screens all over India and it looks like it has worked as an advantage for the film.

Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, ‘TEPK’ is all about the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene. Though as per critics, the film fails to hit the right chord while delivering a social message, for the masses, it seems to be a good film. ‘TEPK’ has received an opening similar to that of Akshay’s last film ‘Jolly LLB 2’ which proved to be an average at the box office. But ‘TEPK’ surely has an upper hand as it talks about a problem that haunts the nation. (Also Read: Toilet – Ek Prem Katha movie review: Capable of striking meaningful conversations)

On the other hand, the opening day collection of ‘TEPK’ is lesser than that of Shah Rukh Khan’s last week release ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’. Point to be noted here is that there is a vast difference in the production budget of the two films. ‘TEPK’ has been made on the budget of approximately Rs 18 crore while the estimated budget of ‘JHMS’ was Rs 90 crore. With this, Akshay and Bhumi’s love saga around toilet already seems to be on the path of success.

Let’s see what weekend holds for ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’. Being an extended weekend, we are expecting the numbers to be good.
