Sonam Kapoor in Neerja

Sonam Kapoor‘s soon to be released film ‘Neerja’ holds high expectations, indeed! It is a film which would narrate the heroic episode of Neerja Bhanot’s life wherein she bravely fought with the terrorists to save the life of passengers onboard a hijacked flight. On the fateful day of September 5, 1986 Pan Am Flight 73 came to it’s usual halt in Karachi that’s when four terrorists barged in with guns and hijacked the flight. Neerja, who was the head of cabin crew on this flight, came across various chances to escape this brutal attack but rather she opted for the opposite and stood back in flight to save the lives of the passengers. It was only because of her that approximately 360 people could walk out of that flight safely.

With the series of tweets, Sonam informed her fans that ‘Neerja’ has been banned in Pakistan. She posted,

Shabana Azmi who plays the role of Neerja Bhanot’s mother in the film had once said, “Neerja was awarded the Ashok Chakra by Indian government, a medal by Pakistan and a citation by the US government. There is no way that we will tell a story in which a girl was awarded by Pakistani government and show the country in poor light. I’m really confident that when they will watch the film, they will realise their apprehensions were completely misfounded.”

Well, just like the two ladies even we are disappointed to know that the film has been banned across the border.
