Omung Kumar talks about cutting Richa Chadha's role

Omung Kumar’s ‘Sarbjit’ has received many positive reviews and performances of all the actors are being praised. However, what shocked everyone was Richa Chadha’s claim that her scenes in the film were cut at the edit table.

The actress had been quoted in DNA, “It’s not about the length of the role. It’s just that one works so hard on a film. It’s heart-breaking when some of your best scenes get sacrificed on the editing table. Some of my best scenes had to go. The one scene that I still have towards the end where I am shown bonding with Aishwarya’s character has no context since all my scenes showing my kinship with her are gone.”

In one of the scenes, Dalbir was shown being motivated by her sister-in-law Sukhpreet (Richa Chadha), after being physically abused by her husband and thrown out of the house. There was also a scene where Sukhpreet was shown doing a job as a sweeper and toilet cleaner after Sarbjit gets disappeared. Richa said, “That sequence vividly showed my character’s financial and emotional humiliation in her husband’s absence. Unfortunately it had to go. But I shouldn’t be complaining. Every actor except Randeep Hooda had to suffer the same fate in ‘Sarbjit’, and that includes Aishwarya.”

However, now director Omung Kumar has given a statement about Richa’s claim and has stated that no scenes of the actress were cut.

Omung said, “It is completely untrue about us cutting her role. It is a bound script, the scenes were exactly the same before starting the film and I had narrated Richa the same. So no scenes were cut of hers in the film.”

Richa too had tweeted to clear the air about the reports. In her several tweets, she wrote, “all, hear it from the horse’s mouth. Case of misleading headlines even from a well-intentioned piece. Thank you for all the amazing reviews, but it really is teamwork and I have a great working equation with everyone on the film.Everyone’s. roles were edited a bit but it was all in the interest of the film.Let’s not get nasty,it’s our labour of love. Don’t wish to give this issue more attention than its already got. We stand united @OmungKumar @TSeries @jackkybhagnani @honeybhagnani.” [sic]
