Dharmendra Once Entered Dilip Kumar’s Bedroom Without Permission & Here’s What Happened After
This incident took place when Dharmendra first came to Mumbai (then Bombay) and visited the home of his screen idol, Dilip Kumar. Unable to resist himself from meeting Kumar and without understanding the gravity of his actions, Dharam Ji walked straight into his idol’s house and even made his way to his bedroom.
As revealed in Dilip Kumar’s autobiography, Dilip Kumar: The Substance and the Shadow, Dharmendra recalled, “I wasn’t stopped at the gate by anybody, and so I walked right into the house through the main door. There was a wooden staircase leading to a bedroom upstairs. Again, nobody stopped me, so I climbed up the stairs and stood at the entrance to one of the rooms.”
The anecdote further states that when Dilip Kumar sensed someone’s presence in his room, he woke up and looked directly at nervous young ‘intruder’. Talking about what happened after their eyes locked, the ‘Sholay’ actor recalled, “He sat up and stared at me, quite taken aback to see a total stranger gazing admiringly at him. (Panic struck) He called out to a servant loudly. Now scared, I ran down the staircase and bolted out of the house looking behind to see if I was being followed.”
Though the two actors never shared screen space, Dharmendra always regarded Dilip Kumar as his elder brother and lifelong inspiration.
