While rumours and reports of Dharmendra passing at age 89 make the the headlines on Monday, the veteran actor’s first co-star breathed her last earlier today. As per a media report, Dharman Ji’s first co-star Kamini Kaushal passed away today at the ripe age of 98.

Dharmendra’s ‘Pehli Mulaqat’ With His 1st Co-Star Kamini Kaushal

Long before Dharmendra became the He-Man of Hindi cinema, he worked alongside Kamini Kaushal in the 1965 classic Shaheed. Years later, Dharam Ji took to social media and shared a nostalgic, black and white photo capturing their very first encounter. The image featured a young Dharmendra and Kaushal smiling and radiating warmth as they held hands.

Sharing the pictures, the currently unwell star wrote, “Pehli film SHAHEED ki heroine Kamini Kaushal Ke saath pehli mulaqat ki pehli tasvir… Donon ke chihron par massart … ikk pyaar bhari introduction (My first meeting with the heroine of my first film Shaheed, Kamini Kaushal. There is happiness on both our faces, it was an introduction full of love )….”

The actress’ family is still to release a statement about her demise. She is survived by her sons — Shravan, Vidur, and Rahul Sood

Kamini leaves behind a cinematic legacy spanning more than seven decades. She debuted into the world of films with Neecha Nagar, a film that went on the win the prestigious Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) at the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. She is known for her expressive performances and enduring charm, in films such as Shaheed, Nadiya Ke Paar, Shabnam, Arzoo, Biraj Bahu, Do Bhai, Ziddi, Shabnam, Paras, Namoona, Jhanjar, Aabroo, Bade Sarkar, Jailor, Night Club, Godaan and many more.

Some of her most recent films include Chennai Express in 2013, Kabir Singh in 2019 and Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022.
