Will Tiger Shroff’s ‘A Flying Jatt’ really manage to fly?

Bollywood has made a few attempts at making our own desi superhero film franchise, but the success rate has been dismal. Even the latest Hrithik Roshan-starrer, ‘Krrish 3’ wasn’t as huge a success as it should have been, given the money invested in it. Not very long ago Balaji Motion Pictures announced their superhero film, ‘A Flying Jatt‘ starring Tiger Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez, and there have been speculations about it since then. Given the fact that Tiger is very popular among the kids, thanks to his action hero avatar, it seemed like a very good idea on paper, or so must have been the case. Then the makers revealed Tiger’s first look as a flying jatt, and it has been a downhill ride since then.

The first look invited many nasty digs from detractors, especially over Tiger’s costume and the mask. Others voiced their concern about Tiger not coming across as a jatt boy at all, a character now perfected by Randeep Hooda. Even before the negative reviews of the first look died down, the makers have released the trailer of their forthcoming superhero flick. If the trailer is anything to go by, director Remo D’Souza has managed to sow the seed of a superhero in the making. We can see that Tiger, as a flying jatt is yet to come to terms with his superpowers – he thinks it is to attract girls, but his mother wants him to go out and save the world. Add to this the fact that Tiger has acrophobia (fear of heights) – all this lends to a cute and funny start for a franchise, but is it enough?

It is 2016, and in between RA.One and Krrish, there are many hygiene standards set for a superhero film, the costume being the starting point. Tiger perhaps has the most lazily designed costume, and his mask is unimaginative and borderline tacky. Whatever little VFX that one can see in the trailer is nowhere close to the cutting edge work that Hollywood doles out film after film. With so much going against ‘A Flying Jatt,’ it is very unlikely that it might find many takers at the box office. What do you think about the trailer of ‘A Flying Jatt’?
