On being raised by a single parent, Jaan said, “My mom has actually brought us up in a very fantastic manner and I have no qualms in telling everybody that ‘yes, I am the son of Rita Bhattacharya and I am very proud of it’. My dad is a legend but my mom is actually also a legend because raising three boys single-handedly alone and fighting against the tide and breaking all the stereotypes, my mom has smashed through those barriers in a fabulous way and I love and respect her for that. She has never let me feel the absence of my father; she is my mother and my father. So, proudly I can say that I am the son of Kumar Sanu but I am also the son of Rita Bhattacharya. I would actually reverse the order.”

On his dad, Kumar Sanu’s statement on his upbringing, he said, “I felt sad when I got to know that he has these perceptions and opinions about me. I have just one question to ask, ‘If you claim to have not been there in my childhood, you have said since 27 years you have been apart from the family, I am 26. When you didn’t raise me, then how could you raise questions on my upbringing?’ From Salman Khan to the entire country have said that I have a very solid upbringing and a very well product child who has the manners and the elegance and the etiquettes of a thorough gentleman. If everyone agrees to it, then it would be better if he doesn’t question my upbringing. He was not there when I was born and whatever I am, it’s all because of my mother and I think everyone is witness to the fact that my mother has raised three very fine gentlemen. I think I am going to have a word with him and I think these issues will be clarified.”
