Actor Diljit Dosanjh who is popular for his Punjabi films has done some notable films in Bollywood as well. He has made a name for himself in the industry by starring in Udta Punjab and Good Newwz. However, his upcoming film, Honsla Rakh which is a Punjabi film is now catering to a larger audience. The film is no more a Punjabi film but a pan-India film. Speaking about the difference between Bollywood and regional cinema, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Diljit was asked about this difference where he mentioned that regional cinema has a lot of stories to tell; hence that’s why they are mostly being remade in Hindi.

“Aap hamari film ka trailer dekhiye aur batayi ki quality mein kahi kami hai. Me bata nahi sakta hoon ki mujhe kaha kaha se Bollywood se phone aa rahe hai, ‘ki hame bhi aise film ban nani hai, hume bhi aisa karna, naam toh bata nahi lena chahiye bus aap trailer dekhiye Honsla Rakh ka aur hame bataye ki koi kami hai ya koi difference hai.” He then credits the film to the producer, director and the technicians.

Adding more to it, Shehnaaz chimed in and said, “Punjabi mein itna saara talent hai, as a singer, as an actress, agar Bollywood isko realise karega ki Punjab mein zyada talent hai, to mujhe lagta hai ki saare punajbiyon ko mauka milega Bollwyood mein kaam karne ka.” Diljit cuts her in and teasingly says that he doesn’t want a chance; however, Shehnaaz says she wants to work in Bollywood. “Hame nahi chahiye mauka, jisse kaam karna hai wo aaye,” he says.

Further Sonam too gave her opinion on the same. She was elated with the fact the Bollywood has expressed its desire to make a film on this. She thinks it to be a proud moment. “Punjabi industry ko dekhe toh hamari budgets compare to Bollywood bohot kam hai toh uss limited resources mein agar humne aisi kuch banayi ki Bollywood usse banana chahta hai aur mera ye shuru se dream hai ki South movies ke remake bante aur unke right liye jaate hai. Bohot proud ki baat hogi agar Bollywood bhi humse inspiration leke kuch karega. I take it as a huge compliment.” She also mentioned that for true lovers, language wouldn’t be a barrier since this is an art.

Diljit also adds, “Ho sakta hai regional cinema jo bhi ho chahe wo Punjabi ka ho, South ka ho, Bollywood min kaafi filmein South ki hai. Toh regional cinema ke pass kahaniya hai kehneke liye, so we are proud hamare regional cinema pe, hame punjabi filmon pe proud hai, jo South ke filmon mein kaam karte hai unko South movies pe proud hoga. Hum sab Bollywood movies bhi enjoy karte hai. Lekin humein proud hai ki hum Punjabi films karte hai.

Helmed by Amarjit Singh Saron, Honsla Rakh starring Diljit Dosanjh, Shehnaaz Gill, Sonam Bajwa will be releasing on October 15.
