In recent news, the 1920 actor, Aftab Shivdasani has fallen prey to a case of cyber scam, a KYC fraud. The Bollywood actor, who starred in movies like Masti, Kya Kool Hai Hum, Hungama, and more, fell victim to scammers as he lost a huge amount of Rs.1.5 lakhs in online KYC scam.

Aftab Shivdasani falls prey to KYC fraud

As per reports, Aftab Shivdasani received a text message with a link where he was asked to update his Know Your Customer (KYC). Unfortunately, the text message consisted of a phishing link. As a result of this, the actor lost Rs.1.50 lakhs from his bank account. It was on Sunday when the actor received the message through an unknown number, reported PTI.

It is said that the actor was asked to update the KYC details linked to his bank account. Before this, the actor was warned that if he failed to do so, his account would be suspended. Aftab went ahead and followed the instructions. However, he received a message stating that Rs. 1,49,999 had been debited from his account. Aftab added these details in the police complaint.

On Monday, the actor contacted his branch manager and lodged a police complaint, said an official of Bandra police station. It also stated that a case is lodged under the section of IPC, including 420 (cheating) and sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Recently, Ayesha Shroff, wife of Jackie Shroff was duped of Rs.58 lakhs. Post this, she had filed a police complaint. In 2022, actor Annu Kapoor was duped with Rs.4.36 lakhs. In 2016, actress Nargis Fakhri was conned through online credit card fraud. Actor Karan Singh Grover was also one among many who had fallen prey to online lottery scam. It is surprising to note that cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Pune are emerging as hotspots for online scams.
