On Monday, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection to the 2016 Panama papers leak case. Reportedly, the agency asked the actress to appear at their office for questioning and to record her statement. However, she has sought another date for questioning in Delhi.

Confirming the same, an official told IANS: “We summoned her for December 20. As of now we haven’t got any reply from her side. The summon was sent to her Mumbai residence.” Reportedly, if Aishwarya Rai doesn’t join the probe, the ED will think of further legal action. They might also seek legal opinion from the experts to decide the future course of action, added the official.

This is not the first time, the actress was summoned by ED, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was summoned on two occasions in the Panama papers case earlier in 2016. Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan’s names were also brought up in the case.

Many big names from around the world were also named in the leak. The ED has been probing the case since 2016 when the global leaks came to light.

Meanwhile, The Pandora Papers are 11.9 million leaked documents that exposed the secret offshore accounts of 35 world leaders. The leak exposed the financial details of over 214,488 offshore entities. The document exposed the network of more than 214,000 tax havens involving people and entities from 200 different nations. The files were leaked to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) The documents contained personal financial information, were current or former world leaders, public officials, politicians, celebrities, and corporate people.
