Meanwhile, the director is currently looking forward to completing the patchwork for Maidaan. Further, the report added: “Ajay has completed his shoot including football matches, and the climax that traces the India-South Korea final match of the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta. As and when the COVID-19 situation improves, Amit [and his crew] will fly to Rome, Helsinki, and Melbourne to shoot footage [depicting] international matches for the patchwork.”

Earlier, Keerthy Suresh was roped in the film but later was replaced by Priyamani in the film. Reportedly, the makers stated that Keerthy looked too young to play the motherly role she was asked to portray.

Maidaan is based on the golden era of Indian football (1952–1962) and starring Ajay as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who is considered as the architect of modern Indian football. The film is helmed by Amit R Sharma and produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Akash Chawla. It also stars Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh. It marks the first-ever collaboration of Devgn with the National Award-winning director.

The film is scheduled for worldwide release in theatres on 3 June 2022.
