The launch event saw the presence of Akshay Kumar, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Tusshar Kapoor, Yashpal Sharma, Johny Lever, Aftab Shivdasani, Shreyas Talpade, Rajpal Yadav, Krushna Abhishek, director Ahmed Khan, producer Ajit Andhare, co-producer Shaira Ahmed Khan and dialogue writer Farhad Samji.

During the interaction, Akshay Kumar addressed recent reports claiming that he charged only Rs 1.8 crore for the film. Reacting to the speculation, the actor joked, “To be honest, whoever told you that I’ve charged Rs. 1.8 crores, maine utna bhi nahin liya. Mujhe utna bhi nahin mila!”

He then spoke about his emotional connection to the project and remembered late writer Neeraj Vora, who penned the story. Akshay said, “For me, what is important is that the film is written by the late Neeraj Vora ji. I have learned a lot from three people in this industry – Priyadarshan ji, Rajkumar Santoshi ji and Neeraj Vora ji. Neeraj ji had a huge contribution to my career and in my learning comedy. He wrote the story, and Firoz A. Nadiadwallah is also involved (as a producer). I have known him for 36 years. I used to know him since my struggling days and even today, I continue to struggle! It was a struggle to get him to the event (smiles).”

Reports Of Akshay Charging Rs 1.8 Cr

Meanwhile, reports around the film’s business model continue to make headlines. Trade reports recently suggested that the makers have allegedly secured nearly Rs 120 crore through OTT, satellite and audio rights. Reports also claimed that Akshay opted for a nominal upfront fee and may instead receive a major share of the film’s intellectual property revenue after release. However, the makers have not officially confirmed these figures.

About The Film

Welcome To The Jungle marks the third instalment in the popular Welcome franchise after Welcome (2007) and Welcome Back (2015). The film carries strong nostalgia value among audiences. It also features an extensive cast including Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon and Lara Dutta. Notably, the film reunites Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon on screen after several years.

Directed by Ahmed Khan, Welcome To The Jungle is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 26.

On the work front, Akshay Kumar has an extensive slate ahead. He recently reunited with Priyadarshan for Bhooth Bangla and will collaborate with the filmmaker again on Haiwaan. The actor also has an untitled family comedy with Vidya Balan and director Anees Bazmee, alongside Raashi Khanna. In addition, Akshay is set to appear in Rohit Shetty’s much-awaited Golmaal 5.
