Real Events Inspiration To Engaging Storytelling, Here’s Why The Audience Will Connect To The Characters In Daayra

Released on Friday, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran-led Daayra in unlike many of the crime thriller we’ve seen on the big screen in recent times. The story written by Meghna Gulzar and team, is being loved by the audience for Gulzar’s direction, on-point cinematography, engaging screenplay and most of all, impeccable acting by Khan, Sukumaran and the ensemble cast. As the film continues to be viewed in theatres, here’s why the audience will connect with the characters.

Why The Audience Will Connect To The Characters In Daayra

Inspired by a true event, Daayra follows the brutal gang rape and murder of a young girl. The heinous crime – which include the accused setting the victim’s body on fire, sparks massive public outrage, leading to pressure on the police department to arrest the culprits. DCP Raman Kumar apprehends the four suspects, however they are soon killed by the police. While human right activists across the country call it an encounter, the police maintain that the killing happened as a result of the accused stealing their weapons and attempting to escape from the crime scene..

While the citizens across the country celebrate Raman for delivering quick justice and not letting the case prolong for years, a SIT committee – headed by DCP Ajooni Kohli, is set up to investigate the incident. From its engaging storytelling, to being inspired from real incidents and the character being real, the audience is sure to relate with every single one.

Be it Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Ajooni – a dutiful daughter and stern police officer who believes in following the law and, even if it takes time, letting the ruling of a court be the ultimate judgement, or Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Raman – a diligent officer who is willing to go above and beyond to do his duty, even if it means sometime taking the law in his own hands; neither character is shown to be an hero. Both are humans with their own set of ethics they stick to no matter what.

Not just the lead actors, but the supporting cast too. Kshitee Jog’s performance as Parvati Pujari, the mother of the deceased victim, is heart wrenching. Her silent scream gives you goosebumps while the emotionless but still heavy manner in which she says “Kaha over hai? Court-kacheri ki chakkar… humara vakeel, unka vakeel… Abhi toh shuruwat hai,” is daunting.

The characters in the film aren’t just black and white, they are grey – and hence very relatable to every one who watched them on the big screen.

Inspired by true events, the crime thriller stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles. It also Kanwaljit Singh, Anuja Sathe, Seema Azmi, Biswapati Sarkar, Jitendra Joshi and Upendra Chauhan as pivotal characters.

Giving the film a 4-star rating, Bollywood Bubble wrote in its review, “Daayra is unapologetic and raw as it shows the opposite sides of a coin and how individuals – based on their personal ethics, choose which side they want to be on. It doesn’t praise or demean either side, however, it justly shows how both are right. If you enjoy thrillers, do watch this as it’s unlike any you have seen before.”
