Akshay Kumar has often faced severe backlash for holding a Canadian citizenship. The actor has been trolled as ‘Canada Kumar’ and many other names. However, despite having a Canadian citizenship, Akshay Kumar is taxpayer of the country and pays his taxes regularly in India. It was back in 2019, when the Raksha Bandhan actor had applied for a Canadian citizenship. He had even skipped voting during the Lok Sabha elections.

Akshay opened about his thoughts of leaving India after 14 to 15 films of his flopped in a row. He said he was considering moving to Canada as his films were not working in India. The actor mentioned that his friends living in Canada suggested him to shift.

The actor added, “A lot of people move there for work, but they are still Indians. So I also thought that if destiny is not supporting me here then I should do something about it. I went there, applied for it (the citizenship) and got it.

Akshay, who has often opened up about his Canadian citizenship addressed the trolling he faces on social media recently. During his appearance on Koffee With Karan 7, Kumar was asked if he gets trolled. Reacting to the same, he said he does not go online much. Akshay added, “At the most, they write about Canada. Which I don’t care.”

Further, when Karan Johar mentioned how trolls call him ‘Canada Kumar’, the Raksha Bandhan actor said, “Yeah Canada Kumar, Okay call me that.”
