Actor Avika Gor is all set to take audiences into the supernatural world of Apsara, a show that promises to bring together magic, drama and captivating performances. While stepping into a distinctive world comes with its own set of challenges, Avika recently opened up about one particularly demanding aspect of the shoot, dancing, and performing action sequences while wearing a fake pregnant belly.
Avika Gor: The Challenge Was To Make It Look Natural On Screen
Talking about the experience, Avika Gor shared, “It was definitely challenging! Dancing requires a certain amount of flexibility, balance, and freedom of movement, and when you’re wearing a fake pregnant belly, your body feels a little different. You have to be conscious of how you’re moving while also making sure your expressions and performance look effortless. The challenge was to make it look natural on screen without letting the audience feel that I was consciously adjusting to the belly. But that’s also the fun of being an actor, you learn to adapt to situations you wouldn’t normally experience!”
The challenge extended beyond the dance sequences, as even simple movements required additional attention. She shared, “ Not just dancing, there was a lot of running, slight action etc. Sometimes, even the simplest steps require a little more thought because you’re suddenly more conscious of your balance and body movements. Something you would usually do very naturally requires extra attention. The trick was to stop thinking about the belly too much and get into the rhythm of the performance. I think those moments also made me appreciate how much physical awareness and effort go into portraying a character convincingly.”
Avika: I Had To Be Mindful Of The Way I Carried The Belly While Dancing
Rehearsals played an important role in ensuring that the choreography and character portrayal came together seamlessly. Avika Gor said, “Rehearsals were important because it wasn’t just about getting the dance steps right, it was also about making sure the entire performance looked believable. I had to be mindful of my movements, posture, and the way I carried the belly while dancing. The idea was to strike a balance between performing the choreography well and staying true to the character. You don’t want the audience to notice the effort behind it, you want them to enjoy what they’re watching. You can’t go wrong when you play the Queen of Apsara.”
Interestingly, despite the physical demands, the sequences did not require too many takes. She shared, “Surprisingly, it didn’t take too many takes, but that definitely doesn’t mean it was easy! Once you get into the flow of the choreography, things start falling into place, but dancing with a fake pregnant belly is a different experience altogether. You have to be mindful of your movements while still enjoying the performance. There were definitely moments when the situation itself was amusing, but I think that’s what makes shooting so much fun. You take the challenges in your stride, laugh about the little things, and get the job done!”
With the show Apsara, Avika Gor is embracing a demanding performance that combines choreography, physicality and the challenge of bringing a character convincingly to life on screen.
