With Dhurandhar generating massive buzz ahead of its upcoming release, conversations around the film’s casting and scale continue to dominate headlines. Directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, the action spectacle has already sparked excitement among fans. As anticipation builds for the film, and with Dhurandhar: The Revenge set to arrive next week, actor Akshay Kumar recently opened up about the project and addressed whether he ever felt regret about not being part of it.
Akshay Kumar REACTS To Not Being Part Of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar
During a recent interaction with India Today Conclave Delhi 2026, Akshay Kumar spoke about how cinema constantly evolves and how audience preferences shift with time. Pointing to Dhurandhar as an example of the current trend, the actor said, “Take a film like Dhurandar, for example. It is a complete action film with violence. Logon ne they have lapped it up, they have enjoyed it.”
He further explained that actors often adapt to the kinds of roles that resonate with audiences at a particular time. Akshay added, “Ek hero aata hai jaise Ranveer Singh jo fully action karta hai, ek angry young man kind of image.”
Akshay also spoke about a phase in his own career when socially driven films performed strongly at the box office. He said, “Main aaj se kareeban paanch–chhe saal pehle ki baat karta hoon. Maine social films ki thi — Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Pad Man. Woh bahut chalti thi.”
According to the actor, film genres move in cycles depending on what audiences want to watch at a given time. “Ab horror comedy ka time aa gaya, logon ko horror comedy bahut achhi lagti hai. Stree worked. Everything keeps on changing. We don’t know what they will like next,” he explained.
Akshay also addressed whether actors feel insecure when another star lands a powerful role. “Many times when I meet Ranveer (Singh), he tells me, ‘What a role you did in that film, I would have loved to do it’,” Kumar shared. He added, “We are around 15–20 actors and around 180 Hindi films are made in India. So everyone gets roles.”
When asked directly if he regrets not being part of Dhurandhar, Akshay clarified that while actors may briefly think about missed opportunities, it rarely turns into jealousy. “Regret is only that maybe I could have done it too. Lekin jalan nahi hoti (there is no jealousy),” he concluded.
