Amaal Mallik Alleges ‘Paid PR’ Trying To Ruin Awarapan 2 After Yeh Awarapan Song Release

The track, voiced by Arijit Singh, has sparked widespread debate since its release. While many listeners have praised the song, some have drawn comparisons with the iconic soundtrack of the 2007 cult classic Awarapan, leading to online discussions and mixed opinions. In his detailed social media note, Amaal expressed gratitude to his fans for their love and support. He stated, “Thank you for such a brilliant response to a melody that’s the closest to my heart. Every song needs time to breathe, be taken into the system and then reach and live in the heart of the audience.”

However, he also criticised what he described as a “huge paid PR being run by rival elements of the film industry” that are allegedly trying to undermine the film and the song. He urged critics to “save their funds for their next films,” suggesting that such efforts are futile and that the film’s legacy is built on more than just promotional campaigns.

Amaal clarified that the Awarapan soundtrack is a collection of recreations and adaptations of popular songs. The songs are Toh Phir Aao, Tera Mera Rishta, Maula Maula, and Mahiya. These were originally performed by different artists and not an entirely original album. He emphasised that the album was well adapted by Pritam. He mentioned comparisons to the original songs are unnecessary and potentially harmful to the creative process. Amaal said, “Comparison is the killer of all happiness. We can’t do what Mustafa Zahid did, and we don’t even wish to touch his legacy and spoil it.”

He urged audiences to approach the song with an open mind. The composer emphasised that music should be felt and experienced without hastily judging. “If you feel the pain in #YehAwarapan, don’t worry about anything else, dear listeners. Go heal your heart,” he added.
