Actor Angad Bedi’s father and former Indian Captain Bishan Singh Bedi dies at the age of 77 after battling prolonged illness. Over the last two year, Bedi was down with ailing health during which he underwent numerous medical procedures, including a knee surgery approximately one month ago. He is survived by his wife Anju, and two children, Neha and Angad.

About Bishan Singh Bedi

Bishan Singh Bedi was a left-arm spinner who also captained the Indian team in 22 matches.  Bedi was an active cricketer from 1967 to 1979. Bedi’s remarkable journey in the world of cricket spanned decades and left an indelible mark. He had played for India in 67 Tests, taking 266 wickets and is considered a key figure in India’s first ODI win. He was one of the finest spinners India had and was among the architects of India’s spin bowling revolution. Talking about international matches, he played a major role in India’s win against South Africa in 1975 World Cup.

Bishan Singh Bedi made his first and last on-screen appearance in R Balki’s Ghoomer. The movie was a sports drama based on a cricketer’s life and featured his son Angad as well. It starred Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher in lead roles.

BCCI mourns Bishan Singh Bedi’s demise

Informing about the cricketer’s demise, the authority wrote, “The BCCI mourns the sad demise of former India Test Captain and legendary spinner, Bishan Singh Bedi. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and fans in these tough times. May his soul rest in peace

Even PM Narendra Modi mourned his demise and offered heartfelt condolences. He wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of noted cricketer Shri Bishan Singh Bedi Ji. His passion for the sport was unwavering and his exemplary bowling performances led India to numerous memorable victories. He will continue to inspire future generations of cricketers. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
