Ashalata Wabgaonkar Passes Away bollywood celebs mourn death

Veteran actress Ashalata Wabgaonkar breathed her last today. The 79-year-old actress had contracted Coronavirus and was admitted to a hospital in Satara. Reportedly she contracted the deadly virus on the sets of her Marathi mythological show  ‘Aai Mazi Kalubai’.

Apart from Hindi films, Ashalata has worked extensively in Marathi films and theatre. Her death came as a shock to the film fraternity. Several celebs like Shabana Azmi, Ashok Saraf, Nimrat Kaur and Ajinkya Deo took to social media to offer their heartfelt condolences.

Shabana Azmi who has worked with Ashalata in Basu Chatterjee’s ‘Apne Paraye’ expressed her grief on social media. “Deeply saddened. I had the pleasure of working with #Ashalataji in Basu Chatterjee’s #Apne Paraye and she was a delight to work with. Condolences to the family.RIP,” Shabana tweeted.

Mourning the death of his godsister Ashalata, Ashok Saraf told Mumbai Mirror, “We made out debut together in Marathi entertainment industry. She played a lead role and was also honoured with the best actress award in Maharashtra State Competition for her debut. We both took training under Fimmaker Gopinath Savkar Savkar was our guru and Ashalata is like my god sister. So, I have lost my godsister today”

Whereas actress Nimrat Kaur took to Twitter and wrote, “My deepest condolences to the loved ones of the veteran actress #AshalataWabgaonkar ji…her gentle face and memorable performances will forever remain etched in the history of our cinema. #RIPAshalataji(sic)”

Goshhh Ashalata Wabgaonkar who played my mother in film Maherchi sadi and many more is no more cannot believe it may she rest in peace such a nice lady and lovable person just can’t believe she is no more.RIP,” tweeted ‘Tanhaji’ actor Ajinkya Deo.

Actress Renuka Shahane also tweeted in Marathi which roughly translates to, “I am deeply saddened today. Covid has claimed the life of a very beautiful soul. She was an extremely caring, loving, sensitive and brilliant actress. She always used to bless me like her child. May her soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences.”
