Badshah Faces Trouble Over Lyrics, Inappropriate Portrayal Of Women In ‘Tateeree’
Trouble seems to be escalating for Badshah as the Haryana State Commission for Women has directed the police to arrest him after he failed to appear before the panel in connection with the controversy surrounding his music video Tateeree. The commission had previously issued a notice asking the singer to appear before it in Panipat, Haryana, by 3 PM on Friday. However, after he did not attend the hearing, the commission’s chairperson, Renu Bhatia, instructed the police to seize his passport and take him into custody.
Speaking to reporters, Renu Bhatia shared that she has instructed the Superintendent of Police in Panipat to arrest Badshah. Moreover, she has also issued search orders if required. She also requested that his passport be confiscated to ensure he does not leave the country. According to Press Trust of India, she said, “I have directed SP Panipat to arrest Badshah from anywhere and issue search orders if needed.”
Renu Bhatia also confirmed that FIRs in connection with the matter have already been registered in Panchkula and Jind. She further stated that she has written to the National Commission for Women requesting that no shows featuring Badshah be allowed to take place anywhere in the country.
What Is The Controversy?
The rapper has been drawing criticism over his recent song Tateeree, with several people accusing the track of objectifying women. Reports also suggest that the Haryana Police have initiated steps to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC). This is to prevent him from leaving the country. According to officials, an FIR has been filed at the Cyber Police Station in Sector 20, Panchkula. It has been filed concerning the song and the video, which authorities claim contain objectionable content.
Meanwhile, singer Sona Mohapatra also took a dig at Badshah over the controversy. In an Instagram post, she criticised what she described as the repeated use of misogynistic themes in pop music. She remarked that such portrayals are not new, pointing out a pattern where male performers often glorify exaggerated masculinity. Additionally, objectifying women and presenting themselves as irresistible heroes.
