It’s been more than two weeks now after filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali had to shift the scheduled release date of his epic period drama ‘Padmavati’, due to the various issues and protests it faced. The film starring actress Deepika Padukon in titular role is still awaiting a release and is yet to receive a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Recently, there was a revelation that many wouldn’t be aware of. Veteran actress Hema Malini recalled the time about 30 years ago when she got the opportunity of playing Rani Padmavati in a TV series titled ‘Tera Panhey’ which originally aired in 1986 on Doordarshan. (Also Read: Padmavati: This is not the first time Bhansali has a connection with the queen’s tale. It was during a session at the Times Litfest, where she was present. When asked about the growing intolerance against art in the country in reference to issues faced by ‘Padmavati’ film, the veteran actress went on answer, “I feel very happy that I’ve done Padmavati’s role, that is Rani Padmini in ‘Tera Panhey’. Mera toh release bhi hogaya (Mine already got a release).”

Talking about the TV series ‘Tera Panhey’, the actress had played a number historical characters in it, which depicted 13 chapters from the history. Among them, Rani Padmavati was one of the characters. In fact, it was written by none other than one of the most celebrated writers, Gulzar.
